Silversmithing for Jewellery - Introduction

Introduction to Silversmithing and Metal Working for Jewellery

Silversmithing is the art of shaping metal, principally silver, but also other metals such as copper, steel and brass, using specialist techniques. Silver is cheaper to buy than gold and so is popular with those just starting out and is very fashionable so is frequently used in more artistic jewellery pieces. Jewellery made using silversmithing is typically made from a single piece of metal that has been hammered or formed under the pressure of percussion.
