The aim of this course is to equip you with the theoretical knowledge of setting in order to support your practical work. You will work to build a catalogue of setting examples that can be used for future reference.

You will be given an introduction into the fascinating world of Stone Setting by one of our highly trained professional setters from within the industry. Throughout your training you will be guided through the history of stone setting in order for you to understand and piece together the techniques of stone setting which have evolved over the years. You will be taught all about the basic tools that a setter needs at their bench and you will be shown how to make your own for future use.
Within the two days training you will be shown how to make;

A claw setting
These are the most popular settings in jewellery making so it is important for you to grasp these earlier on as they will teach you the basics for all other settings that you go onto learn in the future.
You will build a catalogue of setting examples that can be used for future reference.
You will gain the practical skills and theoretical understanding of settings that will allow you to develop over time.
You will leave with the confidence in your abilities to set stones in a variety of methods
The course will be lead at the students individual pace and as the groups are kept you a maximum of 8 people, you will have plenty of opportunities to have a one to one with your tutor.
All of the tools and materials needed for this course are provided for you by the Academy. If you wish to use your own we do not discourage you from doing this and in fact if you have materials that you would like to practice with as well, we encourage this also as we want you to be confident after your training has come to an end.
