Work in Progress is a new programme for jewellers run by Holts Academy of Jewellery in the legendary Hatton Garden jewellery quarter in Central London. Part of the London Style Project for creative businesses it will train, advise and provide business opportunities for London-based, self-employed jewellers. Starting in October 2009 this project combines practical and dynamic workshops with four hours of one-to-one specialist mentoring. The workshops, which will run every Wednesday over three months, aim to generate the energy, enthusiasm and sense of purpose needed for a business to succeed in a tough climate.

Eligibility

New or recently self employed jewellers who are keen to gain a greater understanding of product development, market research, financial management, marketing and branding. Applicants must be:

o        Based in the Greater London Area

o        Able to provide evidence of business registration or self-employed status

o        Prepared to provide evidence of their turnover before and after completion of the project

Holts Academy has brought together a team of experts to deliver the ten workshops that make up the Work in Progress programme.

The value of these sessions is £3000 per person, but as this Project is part-financed by the European Union's European Regional Development Fund, they are offered fully subsidised. However, a deposit payment of £500 is required to ensure commitment from the participants which will be returned upon completion of the project.

The Experts

Holts Academy of Jewellery: the UK's only Jewellery training provider delivering solely to the entire Jewellery Industry. They have delivered excellence to over 800 individuals and businesses per year in the Jewellery Sector for the past ten years. Successful projects include the BTTP (Bespoke Training and Technology Project) where over 650 businesses were supported with training and consultancy to aid their business development.

Palmer Hamilton Partnership: Paulene Hamilton and Sarah Palmer have over twenty years experience of providing business support to creative businesses in the UK. They will be running the Business Planning, Costing and Pricing, Financial Management and Marketing sessions.

AldythAid: Aldyth Crowther specialises in giving marketing and export advice to up and coming jewellers. She recently curated the Kickstart stand at IJL for the BJA. She will be running the Branding, European Markets and Export sessions.

Arabel Lebrusan:  Designer and co-owner of Leblas Jewellery, a fine jewellery company that is committed to social, environmental and cultural responsibility. Her passion makes her the perfect person to teach the Ethical and Environment session.

Jewelogic Product Development Ltd: Jane Farnsworth has been a buyer in the jewellery industry for over thirteen years and now helps designer-makers develop commercial product ranges. Her session is New Product Development.

Nicole Bachman: Nicole is passionate about people communicating well with each other all around the globe. Her stimulating How to sell session will help you to sell and network successfully.
